Feedback: This bar/restaurant/entertainment venue is at the heart of Le Dorat. Run by Scottish couple Lynn & Jonathan since 2005, it's a magnet for the large English ex-pat community and French locals alike. This isn't what you'd expect to find in a rural French backwater, a café/bar with haggis on the menu and a kebab choice in the burger menu, some unusually styled pizza's, and Aberdeen Angus steak when Limousin beef is a regional speciality! But it is partly this uniqueness, plus their good choice of simple great value meals, the fast efficient service and the friendly fun pub-like atmosphere that gives this place such a good vibe. Most Friday nights they have live music with great bands and the place really rocks! (Details of upcoming events are posted in advance on their Facebook page). I've turned up a couple of times and missed the food - so if you would specifically like to eat I'd advise either arriving early, or even better book in advance as this place is good value and really popular.

Feedback: This little restaurant has a welcoming room and a very pleasant terrace. Run by Maïlys et Romain Jallet, it is a popular place with an efficient and friendly service, and serves authentic French cuisine. Famed for its beef and local produce as well as its grand assiette at lunchtime on which all of your courses are set. Beef, lamb etc very good, the fish also highly recommended, and are desserts excellent too. Maybe avoid the Confit Duck en Papillote' as that was not so popular. Wine list modestly priced. For children it is the same menus as adults but half portion and half price. One client review says "The restaurant had been recommended by friends and our party of 9 was made most welcome. Special starter and main dish were prepared for one of our party who was a Vegan (we had advised the restaurant in advance) and we all had a wonderful, relaxed meal with everyone enjoying the excellent food, the attentive, friendly and amusing service in lovely surroundings at a reasonable price. I cannot stress too much how good we felt the food was. Very imaginative and some unusual but very tasty combinations".

Feedback: "An incredible meal, all the flavours were perfect". "We had a well prepared lunch, good quality and very reasonably priced for a large family". Friendly service, with English spoken, and came with the waiter giving mini French lessons to the children of one family! Often the set menu in France does not include non-meat options - so vegetarians may suggest "an omlette"? as every restaurant can surely cope with that! However feed back says the chef at 'La Table du Lavoir' has prepared some off-menu delights for vegetarians, so ask for suggestions...

Feedback: Customers say staff are friendly and very helpful.
This restaurant has consistently received very good feedback from both tourists and the local French whom praise the quality of the food and say it captures the heart of the Limousin. However the decor since the more recent re-furbishment is not to everyone's taste, "Décor très très moche" (very, very, ugly decor!) and it has been accused by some of looking like a canteen! However the same reviewer says..." adorable service" and goes on to say that this really is a good address, offereing simple food but really of a good quality. "une vraie valeur dans ce coin où elles sont très rares!" (a real value in this corner where they are very rare!).
NB Maybe avoid January, as uncharactistically poor feedback for consecutive years - maybe the head chef goes on holiday?

Feedback: Run by Carine and Eric whom are apparently very welcoming, this place is very popular with the locals and nearly always full - try to be there between 12 and 12:30pm though the closer to 12 the better! It is much more than a creperie, with great regional meat dishes (beef and lamb) too. One reviewer said she experienced the best beef here - in the 4 years she has been living in France!

Feedback: Great view, good value English owned (by Steve & Sue).
The Café is located in the peaceful terraced, landscaped gardens alongside the River Vincou, away from the bustle and traffic of the town centre. From here are superb views up to the old town of Bellac and the C12th Church that dominates it, and also down to the C13th Pont de la Pierre.
Apparently the CLE Pudding Club of Poitou Charentes, adore this place saying "13 of us enjoyed a superb salmon starter followed by six fantastic puddings, while the few partners who preferred 'normal' food had a salmon main followed by what they agreed were the best Profiteroles ever!" and they have given this place the the highest score of all the places they have judged so far!
[Just imagine eating a salmon starter - followed by 6 puddings!!!]

Feedback: Run by the delightful John & Eleanor, I stayed here on my first ever visit to the region back in 2013, and they since have become good friends.
If you decide that rather than rent a house like 'Les Rosiers', you would prefer instead to stay at a bed and breakfast, one that is very tastefully furnished, and that has a very welcoming atmosphere, (a home away from home), this is the number one place to stay!
They offer pre-booked evening dining for guests, that is extremely good value and I can personally vouch that their hospitality is first class and their catering excellent!
